Sophomore, Junior, and Senior students whose names do not appear on these lists will be placed Cantabile (women) or Concordia (men).
Due to the growth in both quantity and quality of our program, we will place all incoming freshman women into our newest choir, Bel Canto. This means that both Advanced Women’s Chorale and Cantabile will be made up of 10th through 12th grade students only. In the case of our Advanced Women’s Chorale, this change only increases the level of quality to an ensemble that has already established a prestigious reputation not only in our choir program but in our region.

Thank you again for auditioning and we look forward to another great year!

Mr. Park and Mr. Stultz

CCHS v. CFHS Choir Dodge Ball Tournament 4/22

4/19/2016

Dear parents and students,

Just a reminder that our annual Dodge Ball Tournament against Clear Fall HS Choir is this Friday from 4:00 – 6:00pm in the CFHS third gym. While this is not a mandatory event, we encourage all our students to attend and enjoy an afternoon of friendly rivalry versus the Clear Falls Choir program.

Dodge Ball Waiver
In order to ensure the safety and liability of our participants, we require that any student involved turn in a signed waiver form with both parent and student signatures. This form is attached to this email and is also available through our website (http://www.clearcreekchoir.com/handbook--forms.html).

Transportation
There will be no transportation provided from the either school. All students will need to organize a ride to and from Clear Falls HS. The third gym is located just left of the main entrance into CFHS. Students can park in the front of the gym or get dropped-off/ picked up just outside the main entrance.

What to wear
We encourage our students to wear their 2015-2016 choir t-shirt and any school appropriate pants or shorts that they feel comfortable moving around in.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Mr. Park and Mr. Stultz.

Solo & Ensemble Feb. 20 Information

2/16/2016

Dear Solo and Ensemble students and parents,

This Saturday is our Solo and Ensemble Competition at Angleton High School. All students will travel together via bus to and from the contest. Students need to meet in the CCHS Band Hall by 12:30pm dressed and ready to go. Once we finish singing at Angleton High School we should return to CCHS at approximately 5:45pm in the parking lot just outside the Band Hall. Once we get close to Clear Creek HS students will call and/or text parents of their ride to be ready to pick them up outside the Band hall.

Below are a few things to consider and prepare for this weekend.

Attire:
Solo and Ensemble participants will follow a formal dress code. For women, this can include anything from a mid-length or longer dress, to nice slacks and a blouse. For men, this includes dress pants, shirts, and tie or bow tie. Formal shoes are also required. Men wear some type of dress shoe, and women can wear dress shoes, formal flats, or even heels if they feel comfortable walking or singing in them. We usually tell students to dress in their "Sunday best" or something similar to what one would wear at a more formal/traditional church service. If you have any questions or concerns about attire, please feel free to contact Mr. Stultz or Mr. Park.

Food/ Money:
We advise eating lunch before you meet at CCHS at 12:30pm. We also suggest students bring some cash since Angleton HS Choir will sell concessions during the day (snacks, drinks, etc).

Homework/ games/ etc:
Since the students will only perform for a few minutes during day, they will have a lot of down time before and after they sing. We suggest that students bring homework, puzzles, board games, etc to pass the time.

Students have specific time slots they sing. This information will be given later this week to the students since all CCHS solo and ensemble participants will arrive and leave together from Angelton HS.

Lastly, we will need at least one chaperone to be with our students in the cafeteria during our time slot. Chaperones can provide their own transportation to and from Angleton HS. In years past, chaperones have usually followed the bus to the competition location. If you are interested in chaperone our group of students, please contact either Mr. Stultz or Mr. Park.

If you have any questions or concerns about this Saturday, please feel free to contact us.

Thank you,

Mr. Stultz and Mr. Park

Fall Concert on Thursday
On Thursday, 10/22, the choirs will present the Fall Concert at Webster Presbyterian Church just west of Highway 3 on Nasa Parkway (http://www.websterpresby.org/content.cfm?id=310). The students have been working very hard since the beginning of the year on some wonderful music and are looking forward to performing it for an audience of friends and family.

Please note that in order to avoid conflicts with other organizations, the concert will begin an hour later than our normal concert time, starting at 8:00 PM, and it will last approximately 90 minutes. Students are required as part of their grade to stay until the end of the performance. The concert is free and open to the public.

Call times for each choir:
5:45 PM – Advanced Women’s Chorale (5th period)
6:30 PM – Cantabile (2nd period women)
7:00 PM – Concordia (3rd period men)
7:30 PM – Symphonic Chorale (6th period men and women)

Please note that there will also be a choir booster club meeting before the concert at 7:30 PM at the church. The room within the church where this meeting will take place is TBA.

Please also note that this is a mandatory, required event for all choir students. Participating fully in the Fall Concert is a major test grade. To receive full credit, students must arrive on time, be dressed fully and properly, participate fully in their choir’s performance, demonstrate proper concert etiquette and behavior, and stay until the end of the performance. Arriving late, wearing an incomplete or improper uniform, not singing fully with their choir, misbehavior in the audience or on stage, or leaving the concert early will result in a lowered grade.

For the concert, women should wear their formal dresses with black dress shoes (no high heels). Men should wear their tuxedos with proper footwear. Please note that there are items that the students are required to purchase for their formal concert attire, and there are specific details on how hair and jewelry may be worn. As a reminder, this information can be found on our website handbook: http://www.clearcreekchoir.com/uploads/4/0/3/3/40332685/1516_cchs_choir_handbook.pdf.

Due to campus construction, our auditorium is unavailable for this concert and our Winter Concert in December (which will be held at Clear Springs HS). Due to having a concert off campus, we are providing bus transportation as an option for students who cannot secure their own ride there. If students cannot provide their own ride to the concert, they can ride the bus that leaves CCHS at 5:15 PM from the Band Hall. Students are highly encouraged to provide their own transportation to and from the event, but the bus is provided for those who cannot. The bus will return to CCHS after the concert. We will poll the classes in the coming days, and if there are no students who will be riding the bus, we will cancel it.

As we are guests at Webster Presbyterian Church, please make every effort to be good guests by not leaving trash in the pews, not disturbing any church materials that are in the pews, and overall being good stewards of this facility. We thank you in advance for helping make sure we leave the church in as good of shape as we found it.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the concert!

Fund Raiser Under Way
Last Friday, we launched our Choir Booster Club fund raiser. Last year, our cookies were so successful (and delicious) that we decided to keep selling them this year. They will arrive in time for Christmas, so feel free to purchase some so that you don’t have to bake as much for your guests. For each box purchased, you’ll receive 4 dozen pre-portioned frozen cookies. Baking them is exceedingly convenient: preheat the oven, choose how many cookies you want to bake, bake them, eat them, and put the rest back in the freezer. Unlike tubs of frozen dough where you have to thaw them out all the way before you can bake them, these go straight from the freezer to the oven and are already pre-portioned. And the flavors they have are amazing! Make sure you check out the brochure.

Details on the fund raiser:
-Orders are due on Monday, 10/26.
-Delivery is scheduled for Monday, 12/14.
-Payment needs to be taken when the items are ordered.
-Checks can be made out to CCHS Choir Booster Club.
-Mr. Stultz and Mr. Park have extra order forms if needed.
-Online orders are accepted for your out-of-town family and friends.

If you have family outside of the area who would like to support our choir program by purchasing cookie dough, they can do so online. The cookie dough will be delivered directly to their home. To order online, follow the directions on the fund raiser envelope that the student has. You’ll need the school code (frclelt) and pin code (6463).

We are having some incentive competitions in the choir. The top 2 sellers overall in the choir program will each receive $50 cash. And the class that has the highest per person average will receive a pizza or donut party. So let’s get to selling!

What does the money go for? It will go directly into the Choir Booster Club’s general fund and be used to make sure all students in all choirs get to participate in all of the activities the choir does. Boosters pay for many things over the course of a school year that include transportation to events, contest fees, trip costs, social events, costumes and uniforms, sheet music, karaoke tracks, and student scholarships, as well as tons of other things that come up over the year. If we are doing it, the boosters are helping us do it.

So yes - that’s correct: you can show your support for the Clear Creek Choir by eating some freshly-baked, warm cookies. Win-win!

Congratulations to our Region Choir Members
Last month, 21 students advanced past the TMEA District Auditions and secured a spot in one of the three Region Choirs. They will audition at the Region Auditions on 10/31 to see which Region Choir they are in and to see if they can rank high enough to advance to the third round of auditions. (The fourth round and final round determines who makes the All-State Choir.) Congratulations go out to the following 2015 TMEA Region Choir members:

We need help and donations for upcoming Region Choir Auditions
We are hosting the next round of auditions (Region Choir) at Clear Creek HS. We have an opportunity to raise funds for our booster club by selling concessions to the auditioning students, but we need help in stocking the concessions stand, setting up the day before, and operating it on the day of the competition. If you can help set up on 10/30 or work a shift on 10/31, please e-mail Sonja Barosh-Fuqua at sonjabarosh@yahoo.com.

We are also asking all students to bring items to class anytime between now and Thursday, 10/29:
2nd period Cantabile and 3rd period Concordia, please bring full-sized plain Hershey milk chocolate bars, full-sized individual bags of M&Ms, full-sized regular Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (2 per package), and/or regular individual packages of Sour Punch straws (any flavors).
5th period Advanced Women’s Chorale, please bring 12-packs (or larger) of cans of Coke, Diet Coke, Dr. Pepper, and Sprite.
6th period Symphonic Chorale men, please bring cases or packages of half-liter bottles of Dasani water.
6th period Symphonic Chorale women, please bring packages of hot dog buns.

Thanks for your continued support!

Homecoming Recap
So much thanks to the army of parents who helped run our Fried Oreo booth at the Homecoming Carnival. We broke last year’s record and made even more this year for our booster club! Our booth had a line for all four lunches – we are a very popular booth! So much so that we will likely be purchasing a second outdoor burner so we can double our output next year. Way to go, Booster Club!!!

Our Chamber Singers performed beautifully both at the Candlelight Pep Rally and for all 4 lunches of the Homecoming Carnival! And all five of our choirs also combined for both the Homecoming Pep Rally and the Homecoming Game at Veterans Memorial Stadium to sing the National Anthem. It is always great to get the kids all out there together to be a part of our Homecoming Festivities! We are very thankful that the choir program is such an important part of our Clear Creek HS culture!

Dynamo Game Recap
Many of you saw the video of the National Anthem that we sang before the Houston Dynamo game. For those of you who didn’t see it or hear about it, the Dynamo were playing an international team as part of a charity game, and there was a group of opposing team fans who decided to sabotage our national anthem by yelling, chanting, and playing drums throughout the entire performance. While we are so proud of the professionalism our students showed by continuing to perform it at the highest level (and were subsequently praised by many for doing so), we had never seen such blatant disrespect shown before. I have taken groups to perform National Anthems at Dynamo, Astros, Aeros, and Rockets games as well as numerous other sporting events, and I have never seen anything like what we saw at that game. I was livid afterwards, and I immediately went to speak with our representatives at the Dynamo. They were equally as offended and angry at the situation and said they had never seen anything like that before. It was unprecedented.

But the Dynamo is a class-act organization with whom I have worked for years. They have always treated us right. They immediately apologized for what happened on the field and offered to bring us back next season at no cost to us so that we can sing the National Anthem for a home crowd and respectful audience. Additionally, they have assured me that this specific opposing team will receive repercussions for their fans’ disrespect and will be banned from ever playing the Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium again. We really appreciate their offer to bring us back next season and will let everybody know when that date has been secured.

On a positive note, after the National Anthem, the students had a wonderful time at the game. Dynamo games have an electric atmosphere, and the students and parents in attendance had a lot of fun. What made it especially fun is that we blanked the other team and won 4-0. Heck yeah!! That’s what you get when you disrespect us!

Chamber Singers enter Macy’s All-School A Capella Challenge
A capella pop sensation Pentatonix has teamed up with Macy’s department store for the All-School A Capella Challenge, an online contest where the winning entry is awarded $25,000 for their school. To enter the challenge, schools from across the nation had to record their own a capella version of The Jackson Five’s “I Want You Back” and submit that recording online via YouTube. Our Chamber Singers did just that. If you have some spare time, check out our entry at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyonOiQEHUs. And if you have a little more time, do a YouTube search for “Macy’s All-School A Capella Challenge” and see what other schools from across the nation have done. There are many wonderful entries, and every one of them is unique!

Chamber Singers for hire at Christmastime
Our Chamber Singers perform throughout the community throughout the year, but we are especially busy in the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Sometimes we go out and perform for free at community events, but we are also available for hire, with the proceeds going directly back into our program. Much of what the Chamber Singers earn through their performances is used to help them travel to the San Antonio Madrigals Festival in February.

Our Christmas performance is a 30-minute set of traditional a capella Christmas carols. Eventually, we will purchase some Victorian costumes so that these performances are in true Dickens-on-the-Strand style. But until we have those costumes, we’ll just be performing the music.

If you are interested in hiring our Chamber Singers for a Christmastime performance for a company party or neighborhood event, please contact Mr. Park (jpark@ccisd.net) to check on their availability and what the range of donations usually are for this type of musical performance. But book it soon – our calendar fills up pretty fast!

Thank you for your continued support of our wonderful Clear Creek HS Choir program. We look forward to seeing everyone at the concert on Thursday!

Homecoming Carnival, Pep Rally, and Game

9/29/2015

It's homecoming week here at Clear Creek! Which means our choirs have two upcoming performances along with our Chamber Singers performing at the annual Homecoming Carnival.

Homecoming Carnival - Friday Oct. 2. During Lunches
During all lunches of Friday, the annual Homecoming Carnival will take place in the school's courtyard. Our Chamber Singers will provide the only live entertainment for the Carnival. Students in any other ensemble do not perform for the Carnival. Creek Choir has a booth during the festivities where we sell concessions such as water, soda, and most importantly deep fried Oreos! Each class is responsible for donating certain supplies for our booth. These items are due by Thursday, October 1.

Cantabile (2nd period): Paper Plates
Concordia (3rd period): Dasani Bottle Water
Advanced Women (5th period): Regular Oreos
Symphonic (6th period): Canned Soda (Coca Cola Products)

Students or parents will drop these items off at Mr. Park and Mr. Stultz's office before, after, or during school.

Homecoming Pep Rally - Friday Oct. 2. During School 1:30pm
All Clear Creek Choir members will perform the National Anthem for the school pep rally. This a mandatory grade and will count as one of two major grades for the first-nine week grading period. All students will report to his or her 7th period and wait to be released for the pep rally via announcement. Once dismissed, choir members meet in the CCHS Orchestra Room and check in for attendance. Dress code for this performance includes only our 2015-2016 Choir t-shirt. Mums, in addition to other homecoming related decoration will be allowed as long as they do not make noise or light up during the National Anthem performance. This specifically is related to bells on mums.

Homecoming Football Game Friday Oct. 2. Call time 6:00pm and Football Game at 7:00pm
All Creek Choir members will perform the National Anthem at our Homecoming Football game at Veterans Memorial Stadium (home stadium at CCHS). This also is a mandatory grade and will count as one of two major grades for the first-nine week grading period. Students will meet in the CCHS Orchestra Room at 6:00pm and check in for attendance. Dress code for this performance is considered more formal than the earlier Pep Rally:

Men: choir t-shirt/ black pants (no denim)/ black dress shoes
Women: choir t-shirt/black pants (no denim or leggings)/ black dress shoes or flats (close-toed)

Clear Creek Choir student are only required to stay for the National Anthem performance. Once we are finished, students can choose to stay for the game or go home.

All Choir Students that sing the National Anthem for the Football game will receive free admission. Students are more than welcome to change out of his or her formal attire after the performance. However, if a student wants to stay and attend the game, he or she will need to change in a restroom within the stadium. Once a student leaves Veteran Memorial Stadium for any reason, they will not be allowed back in without paying for a ticket.

Students are responsible for transportation both to and from the Homecoming Football Game. Choir members are allowed to stay after school on Friday in the band hall, but will still need to figure out a ride home after the National Anthem Performance.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact either Mr. Park or Mr. Stultz

DYNAMO GAME:

We've been talking about this a lot in classes for the last week and a half, so hopefully you've already gotten the information from your son or daughter.

On Saturday October 10 (evening game starts at 7PM, we will be leaving in the 4:00 hour), the combined Clear Creek Choirs will be performing the National Anthem before a Houston Dynamo soccer game at BBVA Compass Stadium in downtown Houston. The Dynamo are playing a charity game against the Mexican team Santos Laguna. It should be a packed house and a great time.

There is no requirement or expectation for students to participate, but it is an incredibly fun event every year - there's nothing like singing the Anthem from down on the field and then hearing 25,000 people cheering for you! Nonetheless, participation is optional.

All students who are performing must purchase a ticket and ride the bus to and from the game. Participating students must pay $25 each ($20 ticket, $5 each to offset the cost of buses).

All friends, family members, teachers, and community members are encouraged to join us as well. Tickets for all non-choir students are $20 each.

As we have been talking about with the kids in class, payment for tickets is due tomorrow, Wednesday, 9/23/15. Please send exact change (cash) or make a check payable to CCHS Choir Booster Club in the amount of $25/choir student and $20/extra ticket. If you would prefer to use PayPal, please e-mail me so I can give you the information you need.

FALL AND WINTER CONCERT DATES ARE SET - PLEASE ADD TO YOUR CALENDAR
Our two required first-semester concert dates are finally set. Due to construction, our auditorium is not available for use in the first semester. I have been working all summer on trying to secure a place for our concerts, and it proved more difficult than expected to find places that would work. But we finally have locations for both.

Please add the following dates and times onto your calendar immediately. These concerts are required and a major grade for every choir student. All students will participate in these regardless of eligibility. More details on the concerts will follow at a later date.

Fall Concert will be on Thursday, 10/22/15, at 7:00 PM at Webster Presbyterian Church.

Winter Concert will be on Thursday, 12/10/15 at 7:00 PM in the Clear Springs HS Auditorium.

HOMECOMING WEEK NEXT WEEK - MANDATORY PERFORMANCES
Next week is Homecoming Week here at Creek, and the choir has a couple of required performances.

On Friday, all choirs will sing the National Anthem at the Homecoming Pep Rally during school. Students are required to wear their choir t-shirt.

On Friday night, all choirs will sing the National Anthem at the Homecoming Football Game at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Students are required to wear their choir t-shirt, formal black pants, and formal black, non-heeled shoes. Students must arrive at 6:00 PM for warmup. Students will gain free admission to the Homecoming Football Game, but there is no requirement or expectation to stay for the game. Students' obligations to the choir will end when we are done with the Anthem. There will be no supervision of students after the Anthem is complete. Students may either stay at the game on their own or go home immediately after we are done with the National Anthem.

Please note that both of these performances are required performances and major grades. Students' grades will be deducted for improper uniform/attire or for arriving late.

T-SHIRTS

Choir t-shirts are in and being sorted. They should be handed out in classes this week.

Please write Mr. Stultz or I if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Mr. Park

Welcome Back & new Room Info

8/22/2015

We Hope you are ready to begin the 2015-2016 school year. We have a lot of exciting events in store for the Clear Creek Choir Program this year! Back in June, we said our goodbyes to the old room and are now in the middle of construction for a choir new room. The new space will realistically not be available until the next school year. For this upcoming year, we will be located in the band hall and orchestra room.

Our 5 Clear Creek Choir classes will be meeting in three rooms this year due to the construction:

1) Band Hall (2nd period Cantabile and 6th period Symphonic Chorale)

2) Orchestra Room (5th period Advanced Women's Chorale)

3) Ensemble Room that is between the Band Hall and Orchestra Room (3rd period Concordia and 4th period Chamber Singers)

Below you will find a map of our new locations.

You should also be aware that the Choir Directors' Office is at the end of the Band Hall Practice Room hallway right next to the exterior door to the parking lot. It is former band percussion specialist Josh Wharton's old office. Our phone number remains the same (281-274-1878).

To get to this area from the courtyard, head to the same entrance as you took to get to the choir room and enter at the Butler Gym lobby. Instead of going straight to the choir room (which is closed due to construction), turn right and go through the auditorium lobby. On the other side of the lobby, go through a set of double doors. Make an immediate left, and the band hall will be on your right, or the orchestra room will be further down on your right after another set of double doors. To get to the ensemble room, go through either the band hall or orchestra room, walk to the far side of that room to another door, and into a back hallway where the ensemble room is. Mr. Stultz's and Mr. Park's office is right next to the band hall near the parking lot.

If you get lost, Mr. Park and Mr. Stultz will be in the hallways during the first few days making sure students know which way to go. Tardies are not counted in the first week, so you'll have a chance to learn the new pathways to the classrooms before there are any consequences of being late.

Returning students who know this area of the school, please take a leadership role in helping your colleagues get to the right place.

We are really looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday! You might not be thrilled about getting back to the rigor of your classes, but I hope you're as excited as we are to start on another year of Creek Choir!
