We hope that your summer has started off well and that you are all getting some much deserved rest. This year, the choir auditions continued to get harder and more competitive than in years past, and that is a testament to our students' abilities and desire to improve. But it makes selecting the rosters extremely difficult. Please believe me when I say that we deliberated these results for hours before finally settling on them. Rest assured that every choir is in good shape for achieving success next year.
Below are the rosters for next year. We wish that we could place everyone in the choir that they want, but it's just not possible. We are shorter on tenors next year, and so in order to make more spots available in Symphonic Chorale for our sopranos, altos, and basses, we decided to have some high baritones and low altos rotating in and out of tenor so that we still have a balanced sound. But we stretched the roster as far as we could, and we were still left with quite a few sopranos and altos who in years past would have qualified for Symphonic Chorale.
But then again, that's why we create Advanced Women's Chorale, now called Kapelle. Because we didn't have enough open spots in Symphonic to fit all of our varsity treble singers. And so with Kapelle, we are fortunate to have a varsity choir for all of our varsity level sopranos and altos.
All three of our Varsity ensembles have increase in numbers. Right now, Kapelle is in the mid-40s, Symphonic is sitting at 68, and Chamber is at 28. This is a testament to the health of our program and increasing ability of our students.
If your name is not on this list, you will be in Concordia or Cantabile. Invariably, students who did not qualify for varsity need to focus more on their music-reading and sight-reading skills. These reading skills are of the utmost importance when we consider which students will be in our varsity ensembles. So if this applies to you, try not to be too discouraged, and prepare to come in next year and focus a lot on those music-reading skills. And remember, every choir student receives the same performance and competition opportunities. So if you're not satisfied with your placement, use it to motivate you to hone your skills even more and really learn how to read all of those musical symbols on the page.
If you would like to contact us to get feedback on your placement, we ask that you please wait to hit send until next Monday, 6/11. We look forward to having that conversation with you, but we find that a little time allows for a more productive conversation to happen.
We hope that you have a great summer, and we look forward to seeing you all back here in August.
